LEINSTER
CLUB SENIOR FOOTBALL FINAL (18/12/2011)
GARRYCASTLE
1-8 ST BRIGIDS 0-10
Leinster
Champions!!!!! How wonderful is that.
A
large Garrycastle and Westmeath football contingent made the trip to
Tullamore last Sunday afternoon and witnessed a piece of history as
Garrycastle became the first club from Westmeath to win a Leinster club
title.
Garrycastle
made an excellent start and had a point on the scoreboard within the
first minute as Dessie Dolan converted a free. St Brigids, the Dublin
champions, responded with a point of their own from a free a minute
later. Dessie Dolan, who was winning a lot of ball scored a second point
in the 3rd minute to put Garrycastle in front again. The same player
had his and Garrycastle’s third point in the 8th minute also.
Garrycastle were playing well and St Brigids could not get within scoring
distance of the Garrycastle posts. Dessie Dolan had a fourth point and
wing back, Karl Henson, broke forward to slot over yet another point
in the 14th minute to put his side 4 points to the good. A point from
Gary Dolan as the 20th minute came up on the clock put Garrycastle firmly
in command. St Brigids had a couple of chances for points, but missed
a few scorable frees as the half time whistle approached. Garrycastle
had a goal opportunity but Patrick Mulvihill’s effort was well
saved by Shane Supple in the St Brigid’s goal. The half time score
was 0-6 to 0-1 in Garrycastle’s favour.
St
Brigids knew that they had to make inroads into the lead and responded
on the resumption of play with a point but Dessie Dolan was also on
the mark with a good point from play. A goal for Garrycastle was scored
by Gary Dolan in the 39th minute, as he got on the end of a ball from
James Duignan, to punch the ball to the net. This put his side all of
eight points to the good. To their credit St Brigids did not lie down
and stormed back into the game with a succession of points from the
40th minute to the 50th minute. In fact they recorded 7 points without
reply to leave just a point between the sides with 10 minutes remaining.
The sides were level in the final minute of normal time when St Brigid’s
substitute, Gavin McIntyre, hit over a wonderful point. The official
announced 1 minute of added time and as Garrycastle won possession with
Mark McCallon, he set off to try and build an attack. His kicked pass
down the right wing was delivered, but a late tackle on him was spotted
by Referee, Syl Doyle, who awarded a free from where the ball landed.
Up stepped substitute, Conor Cosgrove, who kept his nerve and slotted
the ball over the bar. That was the final play and Sly Doyle call for
the ball as the Garrycastle substitutes streamed onto the pitch to acclaim
this wonderful win.
What
a day for the red & green. A wonderful team display, where they
never gave up on getting the right result. They can now look forward
to a short break over Christmas and then back into training for an All
Ireland Semi-final tilt at our neighbours from Kiltoom in February.
Garrycastle
Captain, John Gaffey, accepted the McCabe cup from Martin Skelly, Leinster
Council Chairman, to the rousing cheers of the large Garrycastle support
in O'Connor Park, Tullamore.

LEINSTER
CLUB (Semi-Final - 4/12/2011)
GARRYCASTLE
1-10 ATHY 1-6
Garrycastle
qualified for a second Leinster Club Senior Final in three years with
a hard fought but merited win over the Kildare champions, Athy, in Newbridge.
They now meet the Dublin champions, St Brigid’s in the final on
the 18th December.
The
Kildare side made the better start and crafted a goal opportunity in
the opening 5 minutes, but Cathal Mullin brought off a good save to
deny them. Athy took the lead in the 10th minute with a point from play
but Dessie Dolan responded with a point from a free for Garrycastle
in the 13th minute. A pointed free for the Kildare champions put them
ahead again, but Dessie Dolan, with his second successful free levelled
matters. The sides again exchanged points, the Athy score coming from
play and Garrycastle’s response from James Dolan after good approach
play in the 22nd minute. A pointed free from Dessie Dolan put Garrycastle
into the lead for the first time in the 24th minute but Athy were level
a couple of minutes later with a point from play. Garrycastle did have
a 45 in injury time but it was played short but the Referee, Syl Doyle,
brought the half to a close on a scoreline of 0-4 each.
A pointed free form Dessie Dolan in the first minute of the second half
put his side ahead again but as was the pattern up to that point, Athy
responded with a point from a free to level matters again. Garrycastle
forged into a 2 point lead thanks to points from Tom McHugh (a fine
effort from the left wing) and Seanie O’Donoghue. Athy crated
another goal opportunity soon afterwards, but yet again Cathal Mullin
made a good save to deny them. From the clearance, the ball was worked
up to Patrick Mulvihill and he pointed to leave 3 points between the
sides with 40 minutes elapsed. An Athy goal, scored after an effort
came back off the post brought the sides level in the 43rd minute. However,
Garrycastle showed all their experience and register a point straight
away when James Dolan was on the end of a flowing attack to slot over
the score. A pointed free for Athy was responded to with a point from
open play by substitute, Alan Daly, for Garrycastle in the 50th minute.
The match was put firmly into Garrycastle’s control in the 55th
minute when Gary Dolan was quickest to react as the ball came back off
the Athy post and he found the net for Garrycastle and put them 4 points
to the good. Athy pressed forward looking for a goal and they made an
opening in the 60th minute, but Cathal Mullin was steadfast in goal
and cleared the danger yet again. The final score 1-10 to 1-6 in Garrycastle’s
favour.
This
was a solid team performance from Garrycastle. Cathal Mullin brought
off a number of fine saves at important times during the hour. There
were good performances in defence from John Gaffey, Tom McHugh and Karl
Henson in particular. Athy slightly shaded the midfield over the hour
but David O’Shaughnessy and Seanie O’Donoghue worked very
hard throughout. Gary Dolan did a lot of work tracking back and was
on hand for the decisive goal. Dessie Dolan and James Dolan stood out
in attack.
GARRYCASTLE: Cathal Mullin, Mark McCallon, John Gaffey (Capt), Tom McHugh
(0-1), Karl Henson, Doran Harte, Enda Mulvihill, Seanie O’Donoghue
(0-1), David O’Shaughnessy, Rory McGowan, Dessie Dolan (0-4, 4f),
James Dolan (0-2), Gary Dolan (1-0), Patrick Mulvihill (0-1) and James
Duignan.
SUBS: Alan Daly (0-1) for P Mulvihill (44 min); Conor Cosgrove for J
Duignan (54 min); John O’Shaughnessy for T McHugh (56 min); Aidan

FEIS
CUP (25/11/11)
ATHLONE
2-8 GARRYCASTLE 2-7 (After Extra Time)
Garrycastle
lost out by the narrowest of margins to Athlone in the Feis Cup semi-final
clash in Pairc Ciaran last Friday night. The game was switched from
Garrycastle as the pitch was not playable.
Garrycastle
made a bright start to proceedings and had established a 3 point lead
by half time. A goal from Justin McAteer was added to by points from
Conor Cosgrove and two from Alan Daly. Athlone replied with three pointed
frees. Aidan Browne made his first appearance of the year, however,
he suffered a leg injury early on and had to leave the field.
Athlone
had two points early in the second half to reduce the margin to just
a point. Justin McAteer broke through and a shot for goal was deflected
over the bar by the Athlone goalkeeper to re-establish a 2 point lead
for the visitors. An Athlone gaol in their next attack saw them take
the lead for the first time, however, Conor Cosgrove pointed soon afterwards
to level matters. A second Athlone goal, from the boot of John Connellan,
put his side into the lead again but this was cancelled out almost immediately
with a goal from Alan Daly for Garrycastle. Alan Daly then pointed for
the visitors but Athlone equalised with about 5 minutes remaining. Both
sides pressed for a winner but none of their efforts were successful
and Liam McDaniel’s whistle sounded on a scoreline of 2-6 to each
side and extra time beckoned.
Both
sides seemed to struggle in extra time, which given the heavy surface
and a greasy ball was not too surprising. Athlone took the lead with
a point in the 7th minute of the first period of extra time but Garrycastle
were unable to score and the sides turned over for the second period
with Athlone leading by 2-7 to 2-6. A point from a free by Conor Cosgrove
had Garrycastle level in the 7th minute of the second period but a good
point with just a minute remaining put Athlone ahead again. Garrycastle
pushed forward seeking an equaliser but to no avail. The final score
was 2-8 to 2-7 in Athlone’s favour.
On
a difficult night for football both sides are to be commended for their
efforts in what was always an interesting if not a classic game. Garrycastel
had good performances from Gary McCallon, Tom McHugh and Just Barrett
in defence. Justin McAteer and Alan Daly were the pick of the forwards
and battled to the end.
GARRYCASTLE: Stephen McGuire, Gary McCallon, Tom McHugh, Sean Brennan,
Donovan Hermbusche, John O’Shaughnessy, Justin Barrett, Noel Galvin,
Aidan Browne, Johnny McGuire, Rory McGowan, Justin McAteer (1-1), Conor
Cosgrove (0-3, 1f), Paul Dillon and Alan Daly (1-3).
SUBS: Peadar Mulvihill for A Browne (inj, 20 min); Anthony Larkin for
N Galvin (43 min); Alex Gardiner for J McGuire (49 min); Padraig Cosgrove
for Peadar Mulvihill (50 min); Gary Mullery for D Hermbusche (56 min).

for P Dillon (67 min) and Noel Galvin for R McGowan (77 min).
AIB
LEINSTER CLUB SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP (Quarter-Final - 13/11/2011)
GARRYCASTLE
4-11 LONGFORD SLASHERS 1-6
Garrycastle
advanced to this year’s Leinster semi-final with a well merited
win over the Longford champions, Longford Slashers, in sunny Cusack
Park last Sunday afternoon. Playing into a stiff breeze, Garrycastle
put up a strong first half performance. David O’Shaughnessy had
his side’s first point in the 4th minute but Longford Slashers
hit back straight away with a point from a free. Karl Henson broke forward
from his defensive duties to pop over a nice point for Garrycastle in
the 11th minute. However, Longford Slashers responded with a point from
play almost immediately. Doron Harte did likewise in the 12th minute
to put Garrycastle in front again but in keeping with the established
pattern Longford Slashers leveller matters after 16 minutes. Garrycastle
went ahead again when Dessie Dolan pointed after good approach play.
The margin was increased to 2 points soon afterwards when James Dolan
struck over a point when there was possibly a goal on offer. A second
point of the afternoon from David O’Shaughnessy stretched the
Garrycastel lead to 3 points with 22 minutes elapsed. The game was firmly
in Garrycastle control when James Dolan took a good pass from Patrick
Mulvihill, broke a couple of tackles and drove the ball to the net in
the 23rd minute. Longford Slashers hit back with a point from a free
but as the game entered first half injury time, Garrycastle struck for
another goal, again scored by James Dolan, to take a commanding lead.
They were not finished yet and a Dessie Dolan free in the second minute
of added time left the scoreline on 2-7 to 0-4 in Garrycastle’s
favour at the break.
Garrycastel
had the first score of the second period when Dessie Dolan pointed in
the 36th minute of play. However, Longford Slashers then had their best
period of the game as they pressed forward to try and reduce the margin
between the sides. A goal in the 41st minute gave the visitors renewed
hope and they tacked on a point soon afterwards. Another goal opportunity
was saved by Garrycastle goalkeeper, Cathal Mullin, and in a follow-up
attack John Gaffey was on hand to clear the danger from the Garrycastle
goal. A point from substitute, Conor Cosgrove, steadied the Garrycastle
side and they received a further boost in the 52nd minute when a free
from the sideline by James Duignan seemed to evade everyone and ended
up in the back of the net. Longford Slashers responded with a point,
but the game was over as a contest in the 56th minute when yet another
substitute, Alan Daly, pounced for a goal after his initial effort had
struck the Longford Slashers post and rebounded into play. Further points
from Tom McHugh and James Duignan sealed a comfortable win for Garrycastle.
Despite
this big win Garrycastle will know that they have a lot of improvement
to make if they are to advance further. They played well in patches
but will need to do so for much longer periods in the semi-final. There
were good displays from Mark McCallon, John Gaffey and Karl Henson in
defence. David O’Shaughnessy and Seanie O’Donoghue held
sway in midfield throughout most of the hour. James Dolan was our top
marksman but was well supported by Dessie Dolan and James Duignan throughout.
There were also significant contributions by the players introduced
as substitutes.
GARRYCASTLE:
Cathal Mullin, Mark MCallon, John Gaffey (Capt), Alan Fox, Karl Henson
(0-1), Doron Harte (0-1), Enda Mulvihill, Seanie O’Donoghue, David
O’Shaughnessy (0-2), Rory McGowan, Dessie Dolan (0-3, 1f), James
Dolan (2-1), Gary Dolan, Patrick Mulvihill and James Duignan (1-1, 1-0f).
SUBS: Conor Cosgrove (0-1) for P Mulvihill (43 min); Tom McHugh (0-1)
for A Fox (47 min); Alan Daly (1-0) for G Dolan (52 min); John O’Shaughnessy
for E Mulvihill (53 min) and Justin McAteer for R McGowan (57 min).
SHAY
MURTAGH SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FINAL (REPLAY 23/10/2011)
GARRYCASTLE
1-9 MULLINGAR SHAMROCKS 0-9
A
magnificent second half display by the Garrycastle senor team secured
a splendid 3-in-a-row of championship titles for the club last Sunday
afternoon in Cusack Park.
This
game was played in atrocious weather with a constant downpour and a
tricky wind. Despite this both sides served up a trilling game. Mullingar
Shamrocks had the better start and registered their first point in the
2nd minute. They doubled their lead with a well taken score a minute
later. Garrycastle got the tonic of a goal in the 4th minute as a quickly
taken sideline ball was fed to James Duignan and he dispatch the ball
to the net with a curling shot into the top left hand corner. The champions
had a point from Dessie Dolan a minute later to increase their lead.
Shamrocks were awarded a 45 and their goalkeeper, Philip Shaw, just
like Stephen Cluxton for the Dubs, converted for a point. Dessie Dolan
responded with a point for Garrycastle from a free but Shamrocks had
a point in their next attack. Two further points for Shamrocks put them
into the lead again. Rory McGowan broke forward and fisted a point to
level matter in the 22nd minute. The same player seemed to have been
fouled in the large square, but Referee, Pat Fox, let play continue.
From there to the half time Shamrocks dominated and registered 3 points
from play to lead on a scoreline of 0-9 to 1-3 at the break.
Gary
Dolan was introduced at the start of the second half. However, Shamrocks
had the better start to the half, but could not convert a couple of
scoring opportunities. A point fro Doron Harte gave renewed impetus
to Garrycastle and the margin was reduced to just a point when Dessie
Dolan converted a free. Dessie then had a point to put the sides level.
A Dessie Dolan free in the 50th minute put Garrycastle ahead, after
a late tackle on Patrick Mulvihill. Dessie again pointed a free to leave
two points between the sides. What seemed like a penalty, when Gary
Dolan was dragged down, was not awarded, and Garrycastle registered
a point from Seanie O’Donoghue well into injury time to secure
a 1-9 to 0-9 victory.
What
a second half performance!!!. To keep your opponents scoreless in the
second half is quiet an achievement. This is Garrycastle’s sixth
championship in just 11 years. Some record. Every player played their
part.
GARRYCASTLE:
Cathal Mullin, Marl McCallon, John Gaffey (Capt), Alan Fox, Karl Henson,
Doron Harte (0-1), Enda Mulvihill, Seanie O’Donoghue (0-1), Rory
McGowan (0-1), Dessie Dolan (0-6, 4f), James Dolan, Paul Dillon, Patrick
Mulvihill and James Duiganan (1-0).

SENIOR
FOOTBALL FINAL (2/10/2011)
GAERRYCASTLE
0-11 MULLINGAR SHAMROCKS 1-8
Garrycastle
senior team just about survived to keep their hopes of a third championship
title in 3 years, when a last gasp point from James Dolan in added time
secured a draw in the county final.
Mullingar
Shamrocks had a point in the 2nd minute to take the lead and struck
for a goal after 6 minutes to take a decisive lead in the final. However,
responded when Dessie Dolan pointed from a 45 meter kick in the 13th
minute. Mullingar Shamrocks had a second point in their next attack
to extend the lead to 4 points yet again. Garrycastle began to claw
their way back and points from Dessie Dolan, one from open play and
one from a free, reduced the margin. Patrick Mulvihill had a point in
the 23rd minute after he gained possession from a break by Conor Cosgrove.
The sides were level in the 25th minute when Dessie Dolan pointed from
a free. Garrycastle hit the front soon afterwards when Patrick Mulvhill
pointed. However, Mullingar Shamrocks had an equaliser in the second
minute of added time to level the score at 1-3 to 0-6 at the break.
Garrycastle
had the better of the possession in the opening minutes of the second
half. Points from Rory McGowan and Dessie Dolan, established a 2 point
lead by the 41st minute. Three unanswered points from Mullingar Shamrocks
put them into the lead by the 48th minute and a further point stretched
their lead. Dessie Dolan struck over two wonderful points to again level
matters but a fisted point by Donal O’Donoghue put Mullingar Shamrocks
back in front with just a couple of minutes remaining. Garrycastle pressed
forward looking from an equaliser and James Dolan popped over a point,
after a 45 from Dessie Dolan dropped short, to square the match.
Garrycastle
will be disappointed with this performance, on a day when there was
very little to cheer from their perspective, and will have to show significant
improvement in the replay if they are to hold on to their championship
crown.
The
reply will be held on Sunday 23rd October.

SENIOR
FOOTBALL SEMI-FINAL (18/9/2011)
GARRYCASTLE 2-17 TYRRELLSPASS 2-8
Garrycastle seniors qualified for a fourth senior final in a row, and
will seek to repeat their win over Mullingar Shamrocks in the 2010 decider
at Cusack Park on Sunday 2nd October.
Tyrrellspass had the advantage of a strong wind in the first half and
they took an early lead when Dean McNicholas converted a free. Patrick
Mulvihill leveled with a very good point in the seventh minute and further
points from a Des Dolan free and Patrick Mulvihill again put Garrycastle
into a two point lead in the 10th minute. Tyrrellspass reduced the deficit
with a well taken point and a minute later Ger O'Toole scored a goal
after good approach to take the lead.
Garrycastle responded in style by scoring an unanswered 2-2 between
the 13th and 18th minutes. Conor Cosgrove scored both points, the first
of which came from a free, while Patrick Mulvihill raised both green
flags. His first was a superb finish to an end-to-end move, while the
second was a well struck penalty. The sides traded points, Garrycastle’s
coming from Dessie Dolan. Two well-taken Tyrrellspass points got the
deficit down to four points by the 28th minute. Conor Cosgrove had another
point for Garrycastle, but a free from Dean McNicholas left the score
at 2-7 to 1-6 in Garrycastle’s favour at the break.
Tyrrellspass mad a great start to the second half, when Dean McNicholas
firing a superb shot to the roof of the Garrycastle net. However, Garrycastle
responded well to this set-back courtesy of points from Doron Harte,
Patrick Mulvihill and Dessie Dolan from a 45-metre free. The sides traded
points, the Garrycastle effort coming from Conor Cosgrove. Tyrrellspass
substitute John Corcoran, pointed a free to leave just 3 points between
the sides with over 10 minutes remaining. Garrycastle proved their superiority
by adding six more points. Substitute Paul Dillon scored the first of
these before setting up Dessie Dolan for another. Dessie converted a
free on 60 minutes and there was still time for further points from
Enda Mulvihill, Robbie Shine and Dessie Dolan again before Damien Maher’s
final whistle.

COUNTY LEAGUE (Division 1 - 21 /8/2011)
GARRYCASTLE
1-16 TYRRELLSPASS 0-12
Garrycastle
seniors guaranteed a top four finish in Division 1, and thereby qualification
for the Feis Cup semi-finals, with this well merited win over Tyrrellspass
in sunny Garrycastle last Sunday morning.
Playing
with the aid of a slight breeze, Garrycastle got off to the perfect
start when Paul Dillon pointed after just 15 seconds. A pointed free
for Conor Cosgrove pushed the home side further ahead and two points
from Dessie Dolan had 4 points between the sides after 8 minutes. Dessie
was then on the end of a great move, to flick the ball to the net from
a flighted pass by Patrick Mulvihill. Tyrrellspass responded with two
points of their own, both of which came from open play. Another point
was scored by Dessie Dolan, to bring his personal tally to 1-3 at the
mid point of the first half. The sides exchanged points, Garrycastle
score coming from Paul Dillon. Conor Cosgrove then pointed for the home
side to establish a cushion of 7 points after 24 minutes. Tyrrellspass
then exerted some consistent pressure and pointed from open play. Again
the sides exchanged points, with the Garrycastle point coming yet again
from Conor Cosgrove. Tyrrellspass finished the half in strong fashion,
with 3 unanswered points, one of which came from a free to leave Garrycastle
ahead on a scoreline of 1-8 to -0-7 at the break.
Garrycastle
made a bright start to the second half and two points from Conor Cosgrove,
both from frees, and one from Patrick Mulvihill, stretched their lead
further. Tyrrellspass responded with a point from a close range free
but Patrick Mulvihill responded with one for Garrycastle from open play.
Two quick fire points from the visitors gave them hope but another point
from a free by Conor Cosgrove put pay to the mini-revival. Tyrrellspass
had points in the 48th and 49th minutes to narrow the gap to 4 points.
However, Garrycastle finished strongly and three more points, all from
Conor Cosgrove, one of which was from a free, closed out the game.
This was a good performance from Garrycastle, who showed great teamwork
and resolve throughout. There were excellent performances from Doron
Harte and Tom McHugh in defence. James Duignan worked tirelessly throughout.
In the first period, Dessie Dolan showed up very well. Conor Cosgrove
and Patrick Mulvihill were constant thorns in the Tyrrellspass defence.

SENIOR
FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP (Division 2 - 14/8/2011)
GARRYCASTLE
2-13 MARYLAND 0-9
Garrycastle
confirned their position at the top of Division 2 of the senior championship
and their place in the semi-finals with a well deserved win over Maryland
in Moate last Sunday evening. Garrycastle
will play the winners of the quarter-final tie between Tyrrellspass
and The Downs in the semi-final.
Garrycastle
had the better of the early exchanges, with a pointed free for the returning
Dessie Dolan and a point from Conor Cosgrove putting them into a 2 point
lead early on. A point from Patrick Mulvihill was responded to by one
form Maryland in the 6th minute. Two more points brought the scores
back to parity with about 12 minutes played. However, a purple patch
for Garrycastle saw them create chance after chance. A could of decent
goal opportunities were squandered before Patrick Mulvihill converted
after good approach play to raise the first green flag. The same player
struck over two good points to put his side into a 5 point lead by the
18th minute. Maryland had a point from play but Garrycastle responded
with points from Gary Dolan, from James Dolan and Conor Cosgrove. Gary
was also on hand to get his side’s second goal in the 29th minute
and this was supplemented before the half time break with a point from
Patrick Mulvihill. Garrycastle lead by 1-9 to 0-4 at the break.
The
second half was a rather scrappy affair, with Maryland getting some
of the best points of the game. James Dolan had an early point for the
green and red, but Maryland hit back with a couple of points in response.
Patrick Mulvihill had another point which was again responded to by
one for Maryland. James Duignan then got a point but again Maryland
scored a point in reply. Garrycastle’s final score was from Patrick
Mulvihill and Maryland had a point, also their last score, with five
minutes remaining.
This
was a mixed performance from Garrycastle, who showed some good touches,
particularly in the first half. After the break they seemed to lose
their way a bit and will have to improve significantly in their upcoming
semi-final if they are to progress in this year’s championship.
There were good displays by John Gaffey, Doron Harte and Karl Henson
in defence. James Duignan played well in midfield in the absence of
David O’Shaughnessy on his honeymoon. Patrick Mulvihill had a
man of the match performance in attack and was well assisted by Gary
Dolan and James Dolan.
GARRYCASTLE: Cathal Mullin, John O’Shaughnessy, John Gaffey, Alan
Fox, Karl Henson, Doron Harte, Enda Mulvihill, Seanie O’Donoghue,
James Duignan (0-1), James Dolan (0-2), Dessie Dolan (0-1), Gary Dolan
(1-1), Conor Cosgrove (0-2), Patrick Mulvihill (1-6) and Robbie Shine.

GARRYCASTLE
4-13 BUNBROSNA 1-8
Garrycastle
seniors maintained their 100% record in this year’s senior championship
with a comprehensive win over Bunbrosna in Tang last Sunday evening.
This win guarantees knock-out football later in the year.
The first 10 minutes of the game was evenly contested with Bunbrosna
taking the lead in the 5th minute and Garrycastle replying with a point
from Patrick Mulvihill as he punched on a long delivery to the goal
area. Bunbrosna again went ahead only for Robbie Shine to equalise with
a well taken point. Bunbrosna went ahead again in the 9th minute but
were pegged back with yet another equalising point, this time from a
close range free by James Duignan. Garrycastle took the lead for the
first time in the 13th minute as James Dolan was on hand to put over
a point. A fine point from Conor Cosgrove increased the Garrycastle
advantage in the 17th minute. Bunbrosna had a point from a free but
James Duignan responded with a point for Garrycastle from a placed ball
soon afterwards. Garrycastle created two guilt edged chances of goals
in quick succession; however both were missed when shots by Robbie Shine
and one by James Dolan went wide of the post with only the Bunbrosna
goalkeeper to beat. Bunbrosna made full use of these let-offs by getting
a point of their own in the 26th minute. From that point to the half-time
break, Garrycastle went into overdrive with a point from James Duignan,
followed by a goal from Patrick Mulvihill and a point from James Dolan
all in the space of 6 minutes. Garrycastle lead by 1-8 to 0-5 at the
break.
The second
half saw Garrycastle go further ahead as James Duignan pointed from
a free and David O’Shaughnessy broke forward to point from close
range. Bunbrosna did respond well and had a point from a free and then
a goal when some good approach play created a goal opportunity that
was well taken. This left just 3 points between the sides with over
20 minutes remaining. Garrycastle picked up the pace and a goal from
James Duignan was quickly followed by a point from substitute, Alan
Daly. Bunbrosna had a point from a free but this was responded to with
a fine point from Karl Henson. A third Garrycastle goal from David O’Shaughnessy
in the 50th minute ended the game as a contest. Bunbrosna had a point
in their next attack but were carved open again a minute later, as James
Dolan was left unmarked to dispatch the ball to the net when it was
played across the Bunbrosna goal-mouth by Patrick Mulvihill. Fittingly,
the last score of the game, a point, was taken by man-of-the-match Patrick
Mulvihill to leave it 4-13 to 1-8 as Liam McDaniel’s final whistle
sounded.
This
was a good team performance from Garrycastle. The defence were solid
throughout and restricted the Bunbrosna attacks. Patrick Mulvihill was
a constant threat throughout and created many scoring opportunities
in addition to his own scores.

2-10 MULLINGAR SHAMROCKS 0-7
Garrycastle seniors gave themselves a big chance to top this group with
a fully merited win over Mullingar Shamrocks, the other side who came
into this game with maximum points.
Playing
with the aid of a strong but swirling wind, Garrycastle made a very
tentative start as both sides found it hard to crate scoring opportunities.
Mullingar Shamrock had the first score on the board with a point from
a close range free in the 7th minute. However, Garrycastle struck back
immediately with a very good point by Conor Cosgrove from an acute angle.
Mullingar Shamrock regained the lead with a point in the 11th minute
of play, only for Garrycastle to level matters a couple of minutes later
as Conor Cosgrove struck over a point from a free. The same player struck
for another point from a free to put his side into the lead for the
first time mid way through the first half. The next Garrycastle attack
saw Patrick Mulvihill burst through the Shamrocks defence, however he
was fouled and Sean Carroll’s whistle sounded as Patrick struck
the ball to the net but it did not count. The play resumed with a free,
which James Duignan converted. However, Garrycastle supporters in the
good size crowd did not have to wait too long for a green flag, as corner
back, John O’Shaughnessy, broke forward and as he neared goal
he appeared to lose control but still struck a powerful shot to the
top of the Shamrock’s net. At the other end a good Shamrocks attack
created a goal opportunity; however, it was foiled buy a fine block
by John Gaffey at the expense of a 45. Shamrocks did have a point from
a free but Garrycastle responded with a free of their own, which Conor
Cosgrove converted, to leave Garrycastle leading by 1-5 to 0-3 at the
break.
A
Seanie O’Donoghue point from play opened the scoring in the second
period but Shamrocks responded with a point of their own immediately.
A free was converted by James Duignan and it was responded to with a
point from open play by Mullingar Shamrocks. A second Garrycastle goal
in the 44th minute, which was converted smartly by Conor Cosgrove, put
the 2010 champions into an eight point lead. Mullingar Shamrocks responded
with a point from a free to reduce the gap. A point from James Dolan,
who punched the ball over the bar from a clearance, restored the margin
of advantage. Mullingar Shamrocks had a further point in the 51st minute
but this was to be their last score as Garrycastle ran out convincing
winners with further points from Patrick Mulvihill and Karl Henson.
This
was an impressive team performance from Garrycastle, who showed a great
appetite for the game and combined good defence with a strong attack.
There were impressive performances from John O’Shaughnessy, John
Gaffey and Doron Harte in defence. Seanie O’Donoghue and David
O’Shaughnessy gave Garrycastle the edge in midfield throughout.
In attack, Rory McGowan, Conor Cosgrove and Patrick Mulvihill were particularly
impressive.

2-9 CORALSTOIWN/KINNEGAD 0-10
Garrycastle
travelled to Kinnegad last Friday evening to play this re-arranged game.
Luckily, the thundery showers stayed away and allowed the game to proceed
in ideal conditions.
The
home side took the lead with a well taken point in the 4th minute. James
Dolan put Garrycastle level a couple of minutes later with a good point.
Coralstown/Kinnegad regained the lead, only for Patrick Mulvihill to
level matters immediately. Yet again the home side went ahead but were
pegged back when Rory McGowan cut in along the end line and fisted a
good point for Garrycastle in the 16th minute. Garrycastle took the
lead for the first time when Patrick Mulvihill rounded off some good
approach play with a fine point. However, two quick fire points from
the home side in the 22nd and 23rd minutes saw then regain the advantage.
A strong finish to the half saw Garrycastle draw level in the 29th minute
after James Duignan converted a free on the left after he was fouled.
Another Garrycastle attack resulted in a fine goal chance, however,
the Coralstown/Kinnegad goalkeeper Joe Cronley, somehow managed to defy
Conor Cosgrove from close range at the expense of a 45. The resulting
kick was fielded by Rory McGowan, who fisted his second point of the
game and put his side into the lead in the first minute of added time.
The half time score was 0-6 to 0-5 in Garrycastle’s favour.
Dessie
Dolan came in for the second half but his injury flared up and his was
withdrawn after only 4 minutes. However, Garrycastle took a strong grip
on the restart when Rory McGowan fired a goal in the 2nd minute and
Patrick Mulvihill fired over a fine point in the next attack. The home
side responded with a point from a free but Conor Cosgrove fired over
a fine point from an acute angle to restore Garrycastle’s five
point advantage. Coralstown/Kinnegad then enjoyed their best period
of the game, as Garrycastle’s play became disjointed. Points in
the a44th, 48th and 52nd minute saw the gap reduced to just two points
with plenty of time remaining. A fine save from Joe Croney again denied
Gary Dolan a goal and there was only a point between the sides when
Corlastown/Kinnegad pointed in the 54th minute. A strong attack from
the home side was foiled and in their next foray forward, Garrycastle
extended their lead with a fine point from Seanie O’Donoghue from
the left wing. In
added time Gary Dolan put the result beyond doubt, when he flicked the
ball to the net from a pass by substitute Anthony Larkin. The final
score was 2-9 to 0-10 in Garrycastel’s favour.
This
was a mixed bag from Garrycastle. They created plenty of opportunities,
but were wasteful in converting them into scores. There will have to
be a big improvement if they are to get anything from their upcoming
championship clash with Mullingar Shamrocks. There were good performances
from John O’Shaughnesy, Seanie O’Donoghue and James Duignan.
There were also telling contributions from Rory McGowan and Patrick
Mulvihill.

3-10 TUBBERCLAIR 0-9
Garrycastle
seniors collected both points from this re-arranged fixture last Friday
evening in Garrycastle.
Both
sides mad e a tentative start and it took all of 7 minutes for the first
score to arrive, courtesy of the boot of Conor Cosgrove from a close
range free. Johnny McGuire doubled the lead for the home side with a
point in the 8th minute. However, Tubberclair hit back with a good point
from play in the next attack. A point from Conor Cosgrove in the 17th
minute pushed his side further ahead and the same player then converted
a penalty a minute later after a foul on Rory McGowan as he was about
to score. Tubberclair responded to this with a pointed free. A second
Garrycastle goal arrived in the 26th minute as Karl Henson broke forward
from centre-back and was there to receive a pass and blast the ball
to the net from an acute angle. Garrycastle had a third goal almost
immediately, this time courtesy of James Duignan, who was put clear
after very good approach play. Tubberclair has a third point as the
half time break approached, but there was enough time left for Conor
Cosgrove to slot over another point for the home side to leave the scoreline
at 3-4 to 0-3 in Garrycastle’s favour at the break.
Tubberclair
made a bright start to the second half and registered points in the
first and second minute of the half. Garrycastle corner back, Conor
Harrington, made a determined break forward and slotted over a wonderful
point from distance. Tubberclair rallied again and scored 3 point in
succession in the 37th, 41st and 42nd minutes to reduce the gap between
the sides to 6 points. A pointed free in the 44th minute from James
Duignan got Garrycastle moving again and this was quickly followed with
a point from Johnny McGuire. A pointed free from James Duignan was responded
to with a similar one for the visitors. Garrycastle finished stronger
and two further points from Conor Gosgrove sealed the win for Garrycastle.
Best
fro Garrycastle were Conor Harrington, Enda Mulvihill and Karl Henson
in defence. James Duignan, Conor Cosgrove and Rory McGowan were most
prominent in attack.

MULLINGAR
SHAMROCKS 0-8 GARRYCASTLE 0-5
Garrycastle senior came away empty-handed from their visit to Springfield
last Tuesday evening after a closely fought game. Garrycastle had the
better of the opening exchanges and had the first score on the board
after just 3 minutes, when wing back, Conor Harrington, was on hand
to slot over a good point. The home side responded with two points in
quick succession to go into the lead by the 8th minute. Enda Mulvihill
then broke forward to put the sides’ level again with a good point
in the 13th minute of play. Play flowed from end to end as both sides
squandered chances and both sets of forwards found it hard to make any
impression on the respective defences. The home team had a point in
the 21st minute and completed the first half scoring in the final minute
of the half to leave the scoreline 0-4 to 0-2 in favour of Mullingar
Shamrocks at the break.
Mullingar
Shamrocks upped the tempo at the start of the second period and doubled
their lead with a fisted effort and another point from play with just
2 minutes elapsed. A pointed free from James Duignan reduced margin
and this was quickly followed by a point from Conor Cosgrove to reduce
the gap to 2 points. The home side then had a point as the game entered
its last quarter. Both sides were reduced to 14 men in the 50th minute
as Enda Mulvihill and Lorcan Smyth were shown second yellow cards. Alan
Daly had a goal opportunity for Garrycastle but the home goalie brought
off a fine save to deny him. Mullingar Shamrocks then added a point
from a free in the 54th minute but this was replied to by a point from
James Duignan to leave the gap at 3 points again. Garrycastle pressed
forward looking for an equalising goal, but their efforts were resisted
by a strong home defence. A series of 45 meter kicks ensued but each
attack was repelled and the home side ran out winners by 0-8 to 0-5.
This
was a game where both defences were on top. While some scoring opportunities
fell to both sides, the meagre return of just one point from Garrycastle’s
forward division was not good enough.

1-14 ATHLONE 2-6
Garrycastle
seniors secured a second win in two games in this year’s senior
football championship fixture against their nearest rivals, Athlone,
in Tang last Sunday afternoon.
Garrycastle started brightly and lead by 2 points with their scores
coming from Dessie Dolan in the third minute and James Duignan and the
Athlone score coming from a John Connellan free. Shane Mulvihill then
had a point for Garrycastle and this score was added to by points from
Conor Cosgrove and Dessie Dolan, leaving Garrycastle ahead by 0-5 to
0-1 early on.
John Connellan responded for Athlone with a pointed free. However, James
Duignan pointed to restore Garrycastle’s four-point lead. Athlone's
had their first point from play in the 16th minute from John Egan. Garrycastle
full-back John Gaffey conceded a '45' which John Connellan pointed.
On the resumption, Dessie Dolan scored yet another point. Dermot McManus
scored a fine point for Athlone and this was followed by a Joe Fallon
free to narrow the gap to just a point. Seanie O'Donoghue intercepted
an attempted hand pass out of the Athlone defense and scores a point.
An Athlone goal from John Stapleton in the 46th minute to take the lead
by 1-6 to 0-8. However, Garrycastle responded in excellent style and
hit 1-6 without reply in the remaining minutes of the game. James Duignan
fired an equalizer and Patrick Mulvihill restored the lead for Garrycastle
with a point. Garrycastle substitute, Alan Daly, hit over a point and
this was followed by one from Dessie Dolan. Alan Daly then had a goal
from a remarkable overhead kick. Dessie Dolan pointed again to all but

3-12 THE DOWNS 1-4
Garrycastle seniors got the defence of their championship off to a winning
start with a well deserved and comprehensive win over the Downs in Cusack
Park last Sunday evening.
They
got the tonic of a great start when wing back, Enda Mulvihill, was on
the end of a good passage of play to fire a shot to the net with just
3 minutes on the clock. Garrycastle could have scored a second goal
almost immediately but Conor Cosgrove was just wide of the post with
his effort. A point from distance from David O’Shaughnessy pushed
his side into a 4 point lead. However, The Downs responded with a point
in the 10th minute for their opening score. A point from James Duignan
a minute opened the gap to 4 again. Conor Cosgrove had a point from
a free but in their next attack The Downs created a goal opportunity,
however, Cathal Mullin brought off a fine save at the expense of a 45.
The Downs did have a point in their next attack to reduce the margin
but Dessie Dolan had a point for the champions as well. A third point
for The Downs was recorded in the 22nd minute. However, a second Garrycastle
goal arrived in the 26th minute as Dessie Dolan was on the end of a
flowing move to fire the ball past Ciaran McCormack. Dessie then added
a point from play to leave the scoreline at 2-6 to 0-3 in Garrycastle’s
favour at the beak.
On the resumption a point from Conor Cosgrove was quickly followed by
a third Garrycastle goal from Patrick Mulvihill with just a minute of
the second half gone. This score effectively ended the match as a contest.
The Downs had a point from a free but this was replied to by one from
a placed ball from Dessie Dolan. The Downs did have a goal of their
own in the 47th minute, but this was to be their last score. Garrycastle
had further points from Dessie Dolan with 3 (one of which was a free)
and Shane Mulvihill.
This
was an impressive start for the champions but they will have sterner
challenges to face as the competition progresses. There were good displays
throughout the team, but in particular from James Dolan, David O’Shaughnessy
and Dessie Dolan.

2-13 MARYLAND 1-15
Garrycastle
seniors came away with 2 very valuable points from this game last Sunday
morning in sun drenched Drumraney. Played in ideal conditions, both
sides served up an intriguing clash and treated those in attendance
to some fine scores.
The
home side got the scoring under way with a point from a 45 in the 2nd
minute. Garrycastle struck back immediately as a point from a free by
James Duignan levelled matters. Garrycastle struck for the first goal
in the 4th minute of play, when Conor Cosgrove was on the end of a flowing
move to raise the green flag for the visitors. Garrycastle were putting
some nice moves together and further points from Patrick Mulvihill,
who got 2 within a minute, put the visitors into a 3 point lead after
7 minutes. Maryland replied with a point in the 10th minute and were
right back in it when they scored 3 points without reply to levelled
matters in the 17th minute. A fine point from Conor Cosgrove from an
acute angle put Garrycastle in front again but a point from the home
side was soon followed by a goal to put Maryland into the lead and they
followed this up with yet another point to stretch their advantage to
3 points in the 21st minute. Points from Conor Cosgrove and a converted
free by James Duignan reduced the margin; but Maryland had a point from
a close range free to establish a 2 point cushion again. Garrycastle
responded and a pointed free in injury time from James Duignan left
just a point between the sides, on a scoreline of 1-8 to 1-7, in Maryland’s
favour at the break.
Garrycastle
stated the second half in determined fashion and a good attack saw a
fine save by the Maryland goalkeeper from a shot by Donovan Hermbusche,
however, as Donovan tried to get to the rebound he was fouled and Referee,
Liam McDaniel, has no hesitation in awarding a penalty. Patrick Mulvihill
stepped forward and blasted his shot to the Maryland net to put Garrycastle
into the lead. A point from James Duignan was cancelled out by an effort
from a free by Maryland. Maryland drew level in the 37th minute with
a point from open play but James Duignan was on hand to fist a point
to restore Garrycastle’s lead in their next attack. Maryland had
a great opportunity for a second goal in their next attack but Cathal
Mullin brought off a fine save and the danger was cleared. The next
significant passage of play resulted in a red card for Garrycastle’s
Karl Henson, after he and his marker clashed after he was fouled, so
Garrycastle faced some 20 minutes of play down to 14. Paul Dillon struck
over a fine point in the 43rd minute. The play flowed from end to end
with both sides scoring some fine points. Maryland had 3 points on the
run as the home side stepped up the pressure. However, Patrick Mulvihill
responded with a point from play. Maryland struck over a point from
the next attack. Conor Cosgrove put 2 points between the sides as the
game entered its final minute but the home side kept their hopes alive
with a point in rely. There were a couple of minutes of added time,
but neither side added any score and on the final whistle, Garrycastle
had the advantage on a scoreline of 2-13 to 1-15.
This
was a mixed performance from Garrycastle, who at times played some nice
football but also mixed in some sloppy play. Doron Harte was prominent
in defence and David O’Shaughnessy came right into the game when
Garrycastle were a man down. Conor Cosgrove was the pick of the forwards,
scoring some fine points in addition to his goal. He was well supported
by Patrick Mulvihill.

BUNBROSNA
1-9 GARRYCASTLE 0-7
An
under-strength Garrycastle side came away empty-handed following their
journey to Bunbrosna last Saturday afternoon.
While
the rain held off during the course of the game, a heavy pitch made
it difficult for all the players. As a result the opening 10 minutes
of play yielded very few scoring chances, and those that presented themselves
were squandered, particularly by Garrycastle. Cathal Mullin brought
off a great save in the 11th minute to deny the home side a green flag.
His side took full advantage and in their next attack scored the opening
point of the contest, with Gary Dolan on target. The home side were
level in the 19th minute with a point from play but Eoin Monaghan restored
Garrycastle’s advantage with a well taken point. Garrycastle had
the lion’s share of the possession, however, some wasteful shooting
was evident from the forwards and as a result the wides tally mounted.
Bunbrosna were level again in the 23rd minute with a point from play.
Paul Dillon pushed Garrycastle in front again and in added time, Conor
Cosgrove, added a point to leave it 0-4 to 0-2 at the break.
Bunbrosna
had a goal opportunity right from the restart, but a weak shot for goal
trickled wide of Cathal Mullin’s goal. However, they were not
to be denied and raised a green flag in their next attack to take the
lead. The home side followed this up with a good point from play soon
afterwards. Robbie Shine converted a free in the 36th minute; however,
this was cancelled out when Bunbrosna pointed from play. The home side
had yet another point from play and followed that up with a point from
a close range free to put 4 points between the sides. Robbie Shine gave
some hope to Garrycastle with 2 points in close succession, the first
coming from a free and the second from play to reduce the margin. Garrycastle
pressed forward in search of more scores but the Bunbrosna defence held
firm and repelled each attack. The home side finished stronger and had
the last 3 scores, all points from open play to leave it 1-9 to 0-7
on Michael Gordon’s final whistle.
There
were good displays from Cathal Mullin, Karl Henson and Alan Fox in defence.
Seanie O’Donoghue worked hard throughout. Not much went right
for the forwards, but Eoin Monaghan showed well throughout the game
and was well assisted by Robbie Fox and Robbie Shine.

DOWNS 1-10 GARRYCASTLE 1-3
Fielding
without 5 players because of senior and under 21 county commitments,
as well as a number of other absentees, Garrycastle were comprehensively
beaten by The Downs in Garrycastle last Saturday afternoon. The home
side made the better start and Cathal Joyce hit over a nice point from
the left in the 2nd minute. A pointed free for The Downs restored parity
in the 5th minute. Garrycastle regained the lead when James Duignan
pointed from a free and the same player stretched the lead to 2 points
soon afterwards when pointing from yet another free. However, that was
as good as it got for Garrycastle, as the remaining 20 minutes or so
of the half was all The Downs. A goal in the 15th minute put the visitors
into the lead and they picked off a succession of points to lead by
1-7 to 0-3 at the break.
Garrycastle’s
performance improved on the resumption, but they found it hard to break
through and it took an excellent goal from centre-back, Enda Mulvihill
in the 38th minute to bring his side back into it. However, this goal
was to prove to be their last score and 3 points from the visitors,
all coming from open play, kept the margin at 7 points. The final score
was 1-10 to 1-3 in favour of The Downs.
Overall
this was a poor performance from Garrycastle. Padraig Rattigan, Enda
Mulvihill and David O’Shaughnessy were the pick for the home side.

GARRYCASTLE
0-11 CASTLEDALY 0-6
Garrycastle
seniors had their first competitive fixture of the year, when they made
the trip to Castledaly to take on last year’s Division 1 winners.
The pitch was heavy after the rainfall over the weekend, however, the
day was fine and bright.
Garrycastle
started brightly and had a point on the board when James Duignan pointed
after good approach work in the 4th minute. However, the home side responded
immediately with a point of their own from play. A point from Shane
Mulvihill put Garrycastle ahead and their lead was increased when James
Duignan pointed a close range free in the 12th minute. Castledaly responded
with a point from a free. The home side had a goal opportunity in the
20th minute, however brilliant defending from John O’Shaughnessy
saw him clear his lines as a goal looked inevitable. James Dolan then
had a point but Castledaly responded with a point of their own. Garrycastle
scored a point in their next attack, this time from the boot of Alan
Daly. Castledaly finished the half in determined fashion, with points
in the 26th minute and in the first minute of added time to leave the
scores tied at 0-5 to each side.
Sean
Brennan replaced the injured Gary Mullery for Garrycastle on the resumption
of play. A point from James Dolan pushed Garrycastle into the lead again
in their first attack. A point from Doron Harte put Garrycastle two
to the good, but Castledaly responded with a point in the 43rd minute.
From there to the end Garrycastle were to dominate and points from James
Dolan, a James Duignan free put 3 points between the sides. James Duignan
had a point from play and the same player had a pointed free in the
55th minute to leave his side in a strong position as the game entered
its final minutes. The final score was 0-11 to 0-6 in Garrycastle’s
favour.
This
was a good team performance, with the defence playing soundly throughout
in which Doron Harte and Enda Mulvihill were to the fore. David O’Shaughnessy
and Seanie O’Donoghue gave Garrycastle a good platform from which
to launch attacks. James Dolan was the pick of the forwards but he was
well supported by Sane Mulvihill and James Duignan.

Westmeath
Senior Football Championship Final (3/10/2010)
GARRYCASTLE
2-9 MULLINGAR SHAMROCKS 1-8
Garrycastle secured their fifth senior title with a well merited win
over Mullingar Shamrock in Cusack Park last Sunday afternoon. Playing
with the aid of the breeze in the first half Garrycastle got off to
a flying start with a point within 20 seconds from Rory McGowan. They
increased that lead to 2 points in the 3rd minute with a point from
David O’Shaughnessy. However, Garrycastle were rocked back in
the 5th minute when Mullingar Shamrocks struck for a goal. Mullingar
Shamrocks added a point a few minutes later and went 3 points to the
good with a pointed free in the 10th minute of play. This Garrycastle
team showed all their experience from there to the break, playing themselves
steadily back into the game. An inspirational point from Doron Harte,
the team captain, was soon followed with a point from a free by Dessie
Dolan. The same player levelled matters in the 30th minute with a point
after he was fouled as he bore down on goal. The next Garrycastle attack
was to bring their first goal of the game, when corner back James Dolan,
was on the end of a flowing move to crash the ball to the net. Another
pointed free from Dessie Dolan in added time saw Garrycastle go in at
the break leading by 1-6 to 1-2.
Mullingar
Shamrocks came out of the blocks quickly at the start of the second
period and had a point on the board. However, Garrycastle’s second
goal, this one scored by Paul Dillon, put them firmly in control. A
point for Mullingar Shamrocks was replied to by Dessie Dolan point from
play. Substitute Alan Daly was on hand to fire over a point to increase
Garrycastle’s lead in the 43rd minute. As Garrycastle sought to
protect their lead Mullingar Shamrock saw more of the ball and went
in search of scores to salvage the game. Mullingar Shamrock had 3 points
in quick succession but were unable to breach the Garrycastle defence
for the goal they required. Another point from Alan Daly was the final
Garrycastle score with just a minute of normal time remaining. Mullingar
Shamrock pressed forward again and a shot for goal was too high but
resulted in a point in added time.
James
Dolan was awarded the “Man of the Match” and this accolade
was well deserved. This was a very good team performance. Thre were
particularly good performances from Mark McCallon, Doron Harte, Aidan
Browne, David O’Shaughnessy, Dessie Dolan Patrick Mulvihill and
substitute Alan Daly.
Garrycastle
will now meet Longford Slashers in the Leinster Club Championship in
3 weeks at a Westmeath venue.

key player.

a training session all year. Has performed well for the junior team
in league and championship this year.

student. As a result of some outstanding displays with the club’s
minor and junior teams this year, Gary has firmly established himself
as a valued member of the senior panel and is one of the most promising
