2-6 Rosemount 2-5
Our
under 12 team travelled to Rosemount on Wednesday evening last to play
the home team in a league match. With a panel of 32 fighting to be in
the first 15 it was going to be a hard job for the management team.
The home team got off to a great start scoring 1-2 in the first five
minutes. It took Garrycastle a while to get into the game but when they
did they were on top for the rest of the half. With the likes of Taght
Mc Guire in goal making two great point blank saves. Joe Devery, Mark
Mc Keirain and Shane Duffy standing out in defence and Brien Ruane,
Jack Brody and Oisin Langan tipping over the points in the forwards
it got Garrycastle back into the game. The performance was topped off
just before half time when Bill Kelly sent in a high ball which fell
to the feet of Caolan Jemison and he drove the ball to the back of the
net to leave Garrycastle leading at half time by two points.
With the large numbers on the line allot of changes were made in the
second half. Garrycastle kept on top for most of this half but Rosemount
were not going to lie down. They drew level with two minutes remaining
and it looked like they were going to take the points. The Garrycastle
lads looked to be getting tired, but to match a great performance at
midfield Cathal Mannion won the ball out on the wing and headed for
goal. After rounding two Rosemount players his shot at goal was blocked
by a Rosemount`s players boot in a dangerest manner and fair play to
the home team referee he was awarded a free. He picked himself of the
ground to put the ball over the bar which was to be the winning score
of the match.
It was great to see the number of players and the new faces that but
on the Garrycastle colours and this can be only good for the future
of the club. The management team and players would like to thank the
Rosemount team for a good sporting game.
