FIXTURES

RESULTS

Under 9 blitz

The club recently ran an under 9 Blitz under nights under lights. The Blitz consisted of 4 teams including ourselves, Caulry, Tubberclaire and Clann Na Gael. This Blitz was for
younger members of the U/10 panel 8/9 yr olds and older member of U/8s in a Blitz
format over two nights, all matches were very competitive giving the younger members of each panel a chance to shine with some great individual and team efforts. Players that stood out on both nights for Garrycastle were Tommy Stephens, James Murphy, Shane White, Cathal Redmond, Nathan Breslin, Ryan Cornally, Cian Donohue Peter Mulvihill, John McBride, Thanks to refs on both nights Martin Carey, Rowan Mulvihill and Niall Madden.

Under 10 Skills Competition

Our U/10 panel took part in a skills competition over 2 nights where the lads were put
through the skills of the game. Points were awarded/deducted for the different skills played through drills on both weak and stronger sides of the body. The standard of skills
were very high with just a couple of points separating the lads after the 1st night leaving it all to play for on the finals nights. The finals were held on Thurs night with 27 players looking to maximise their points, we had 2 groups 10yrs olds +8/9yrs olds.
For the 10 yr olds Andrew Monaghan lead the field with a great display of skills on 30 pts to take 1st place followed closely by Owen Keogh on 28 pts to take 2nd place and Adam O Brien right behind him on 26 points to secure 3rd place. The 8/9 olds group
proved to be a much tighter contest with very few dropping points. Sean Quinn secured
1st place by just a single point on 28 pts, leaving a nail biting kickoff to decided 2nd/3rd
place between Shane White and Ryan Cornally both finishing on 27 pts. It was the best of 3 placed balls over the bar that would decide, Shane converted all 3 to take 2nd
place and Ryan being denied by the crossbar on the 3rd shot to take 3rd place. Trophies were presented to the 6 finalists. Well done lads.

Under 10 End of season trip to Croke Park

This season finished for the u/10s with a trip to Croke Park on Sat 15th October. On the way we stopped of for a challenge match with Kinnegad u/10s. Where the lads were up against a physically stronger Kinnegad team, we were slow to get into the game allowing the opposition to get an early lead that would prove to be the difference between the sides at full time. Best on the day Andrew Monaghan, Owen Keogh, Martcin and Precious Ebuba. Afterwards we went to Croke Park where we were met our guild for a tour of the stadium and take part in football and hurling skills activities enjoyed by players and adults! “Richie”.

On the way home we stopped in supermacs Maynooth as a treat for players and finished
the season on a high. Big thanks to all that helped during the year John Fagan , Brian Murphy, Liam Galvin and Thomas Kenna.
